About DORI

Adoption Fee: $425.00
Yorkie
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

DORI is a five-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who weighs just 5.4 pounds, and she is every bit as sweet as she is tiny. She came into rescue with nineteen other dogs, all in poor condition and suffering from heavy flea infestations. When DORI arrived, she was nearly hairless from the infestation and a severe flea allergy. Despite medicated baths and soothing lotions, she continued to struggle with irritated skin until our vet administered a Cytopoint injection. Thankfully, it brought her much-needed relief. With continued allergy medication and medicated baths every few days, her skin has improved dramatically, and her coat is slowly beginning to grow back. Even after everything she's been through, DORI is an incredibly loving and affectionate little girl. She knows her name and will come running when called, eager to be near her person. She enjoys nothing more than cuddling up in a cozy blanket beside her foster mom. She gives the gentlest little kisses and hugs and is quickly becoming a favorite around the house. DORI loves snack time and has a healthy appetite. She was quite thin when she first arrived, but now that she's getting regular, nutritious meals, she's gaining weight, her energy is up, and her personality is shining through. She is pee pad trained and rides nicely in the car, although she hasn't yet been walked on a leash and harness due to her sensitive skin. DORI is fine with other small dogs, though she doesn't actively play with her foster siblings, something that may change as she feels more comfortable. She hasn't been cat-tested, but her gentle temperament suggests she'd be ok with feline friends. She is not suited for a home with young children, but older kids who know how to handle small dogs would likely be fine. DORI has begun to show some interest in toys, which is a heartwarming sign of her growing confidence. She also enjoys spending time outside soaking up the sunshine, but because her coat is still growing in, she should only be outdoors for short periods and should wear a light shirt to protect her skin from the sun. DORI has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
