Courtesy Posting: DOWNEY/LA COUNTY, CA (S CAL)- ID #A5705895 - 'COOKIE'- A 4 YR FEMALE, FRIENDLY CHOW SADLY SURRENDERED TO SHELTER DUE TO LANDLORD. FRIENDLY W OTHER DOGS SHE WAS AROUND, MAY BE AVAILABLE TO A FOREVER HOME, OR WILL NEED FOSTER AND RESCUE IF SHE DOES NOT PASS BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT- CHOW EXPERIENCE REQUESTED X URGENT - SHELTER IS OVER CAPACITY AND THIS GIRL IS SCARED/SHY AT SHELTER and may become Rescue only and or on a short deadline. Please help us find a chow savvy and forever home, or foster and rescue to save this dear girl who was surrendered due to no fault of her own to a very full, high kill shelter. Cookie's former owners describe her as happy and playful with big dogs she was around. She is said to be 4 years young, approximately 60 lbs, and spent time both indoors and outdoors. On walks, she is said to pull a little. She had also been around children who visited, but is a bit nervous at first and warms up. At the shelter, she was a little tense receiving vaccinations not surprisingly. The shelter or rescue would spay her for an adopter. Cookie seems to be a typical shy and or scared chow in a shelter. We do not know if she will pass her behavior assessment or not, and thus, she may need rescue, and a foster, or a foster to adopt as she may be made Rescue only. This means she would not be able to be adopted from the shelter directly by a private party, but we can refer qualified homes to rescue groups if needed. Cookie is recommended to a home who has experience with the breed. The shelter may place further restrictions, pending an assessment. Until she has passes an assessment though, and spayed, we do not know if she will be adoptable through the shelter. Therefore, we are looking for a chow savvy foster or foster to adopt we can refer to a rescue group. If you can help in any way or would like more information, please contact: [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who is trying to help the shelter with her placement, and can pair qualified fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Sorry, but we do NOT provide nor arrange for transport to private homes and adoptions due to obvious risks, so please do not ask. A rescue must be involved to arrange for transport- and will be the responsibility of that home to arrange and find. To reach the Downey shelter directly, you may call: 562-940-6898.
