About Persephone

Adoption Fee: $100
Border Collie
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Persephone is a beautiful pure bred border collie. She just turned 5. It breaks my heart to rehome her, but here is the situation: She is very fearful and also has a high prey drive. This is problematic as I have two cats and another dog. (I was told she was good with dogs and cats but that was a lie.) She is extremely reactive when she sees another dog or hears barking. She will attack other dogs. I am pretty sure this is due to her fear, but it is important to understand. She has also taken to resource guarding me, which is another issue as I do not live alone. She would do best in a home with one adult. Maybe two if they are equally committed to bonding and working with her. When it is the two of us, she is just the best dog. She is very, very sweet and loving. She is pretty calm for a border collie and she is more of a sprinter in terms of exercise and play. She will go hard for about 10 minutes but then would prefer to cuddle. She loves to walk and would happily hike for long periods, but I have been limited because of her reactions to other animals - she has even leapt into the air after birds. For the reasons mentions and because she is a high jumper and climber, she definitely should not be let out into the yard without a leash. Loud noises terrify her. She is very smart and highly trainable and definitely wants to please. The problem I have is that my other dog basically sets her off constantly and I am recovering from surgery and I just can't do what she needs right now. She has backslid a bit since my surgery. Before that that, she was doing much better with seeing other dogs when we were out walking. She has always been highly reactive to my other dog though. The adoption fee is just to make sure people are serious. I will provide her kennel, which is her safe space, as well as food and treats and toys. She deserves a loving home where she feels safe.
