MADDIE is an 11.5 year old, 8 pound senior Shih Tzu who recently came back into rescue. Though she's hard of hearing and her eyesight is limited, it doesn't slow her down. She is a spirited little lady full of love (and personality!). MADDIE enjoys brief snuggles and will pick up the occasional toy, but mostly is concerned with eating and sleeping and wandering the yard. She is looking for a loving, safe home where she can enjoy her golden years with soft beds, belly rubs, and someone who sees the beauty in an older dog. She will be a good, easy-going companion for someone! MADDIE loves food...any time, any kind, she's ready! She's also known for her adorable 'chattiness.' If you brush her or pick her up just right, she'll let out a low growl that grows into a hilarious little commentary. It's all part of her charm. MADDIE is about 90% potty trained and does great with access to a porch or yard, she'll happily toddle outside to do her business. Leashes aren't really her thing, but she enjoys gentle exploring in the backyard and rolling around in the grass like a carefree pup. MADDIE gets along with the other small, senior dogs in her foster home, though she may get a bit defensive if bumped since she can't always see what's coming. She would be best in a calm, quiet home without large or overly playful pets. She hasn't been tested with cats and should not go to a home with kids. At night, MADDIE sleeps soundly in a cozy dog bed next to her foster's bed. She has dry eye and needs to have medicine in both eyes daily. MADDIE has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
