About Gus

We're looking for a new home for our sweet 2-year-old standard dachshund, Gus. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old, after getting him from a reputable breeder, and this is a very difficult decision-but we want to do what's best for him. Gus is a loving, goofy, and affectionate pup who brings a lot of joy to our lives. However, we've found that city living-especially in a busy environment like New York-isn't the best fit for his temperament. He's a bit sensitive to the noises and stimulation, and we've noticed he's much more relaxed and happy when we travel to quieter places. Our main challenge has been around his nighttime routine. For some reason, he has trouble settling at night when both of us are home, though he sleeps peacefully when just one of us is around or when he's with a sitter. We've worked with trainers and a behavioral vet, and while medication (he's currently on Reconcile) has helped, we feel he would thrive in a quieter, more spacious environment. With a baby on the way, we want to make sure Gus has the best chance to be happy and comfortable-and we believe that might be with a new family who can give him the calm environment he needs.
