URGENT: MORTY WILL BE HUMANELY EUTHANIZED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 13TH BY 4PM IF NOT PLACED Morty (A275496) is a 5-year-old, 60-pound neutered Shepherd mix who has been in and out of Pinal County Animal Care and Control since 2024. After his most recent impound in March, his owner did not reclaim him. Despite efforts to reach them, the shelter has been unable to make contact, and Morty is now at risk of being euthanized if no placement is secured by Thursday, June 13th at 4PM. Morty is a smart, engaged dog who loves to learn new things and thrives when working with people he trusts. He is dog-friendly and does especially well with confident, energetic female dogs. With volunteers and shelter staff, Morty is affectionate, eager to please, and highly trainable. Unfortunately, like many dogs who have spent extended time in the shelter, Morty has developed barrier reactivity and guarding behavior when strangers approach him and his trusted handlers on leash. These behaviors are not uncommon in long-term shelter residents and are often intensified by stress and lack of enrichment. Morty only gets brief time outside of his kennel each day, and from his perspective, the people who walk him are the highlight of his entire day-so he tries to guard those moments. Morty needs an experienced and committed adopter or foster who is willing to work on building his confidence around new people.
