Currently in Manhattan, Kansas with one of our co-founders! Can drive or meet for the right home (and will be driving back to Arizona mid-summer and can drop-off along the way). Ari is a 7-month old female who is looking for her forever home. She was rescued from the AZ Humane Society in January after being found as a stray weighing only 5lbs and extremely malnourished. Ari was diagnosed with a condition called PRAA (persistent right aortic arch), which meant that her aorta, which usually forms on the left, developed on the right. This caused megaesophagus because her aorta was wrapped around her esophagus, constricting it. As soon as she was weened, she couldn't keep food down and was literally starving. Thankfully, our co-founder was able to bring her to veterinary school with her at K-State to get her the life-saving surgery she needed! She has improved SO MUCH since that surgery. She now eats softened kibble in an elevated feeder. If she eats too fast, she may need it taken away for a minute or two mid-meal so she can swallow and catch up, but that's the worst of it - she usually does just fine on her own! Wet food also needs to be watered down just a bit when she gets it (she will eat it too fast otherwise!). Ari is a super affectionate, happy girl who loves to play with other dogs. She has a ton of energy, so she may be a bit too much for dogs that aren't very playful. She really needs a fenced in yard to play with other dogs or an owner that is able to take her for daily walks or runs. She is currently in a home with 4 other huskies and she understands when the older ones don't want her energy and leaves them alone, but she is all about rough-housing with the younger more playful huskies. If she doesn't go for frequent walks or runs, she needs another playful dog in the home. She is fully kennel trained and potty trained. She met a cat when she was a little younger and did well, so she may still be ok. She is good with kids too - she really doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
