Geordi is my sweet baby boy who I can no longer keep due to my ongoing divorce with my husband and losing my house. My husband currently has him in his care in Ontario Canada (I would transport him to the states), and has expressed to me that he can no longer keep the dogs (we have two) and he needs to rehome them immediately. Geordi has always been a bit skittish but a sweet and loving dog. He LOVES to run and sprint, he needs room to run for certain. He also has a huge personality and will get chatty when he plays or wants attention. He needs to be watched with certain kinds of toys and outside materials; he eats sticks, plays with rocks, eats the fluff from inside soft toys and couch cushions. If he isn't exercised properly he can get bored and destructive (he ripped up our carpet, vinyl and couch cushions). He is crate trained but has recently started exhibiting crate anxiety. He still willingly goes into his crate to signal he needs to go potty. Geordi has recently been diagnosed with a genetic condition where his body makes bladder stones, however with the right diet he'll be fine. He is on a special formula food and will need to be on it for the rest of his life. He will also need regular urinalysis and yearly bladder x-rays to check for stones. Because of this recent illness Geordi has also become aggressive towards other dogs and has started snapping at the vet when they try to touch him to check his incisions, we've started to muzzle him during vet visits. These behaviors are new and weren't issues before he fell ill and got surgery. We have reached out to over 60 different rescues between Canada and the USA. We have received a few responses and they have been rejections. This is mostly due to his recent aggression. We've been told to take him to professional training, but we are both out of money (we just spent about 9K on Geordi;s illness and surgery) and running out of time. Additionally my husband doesn't drive so he can't take him to training classes. My husband's living situation has gotten difficult and with Geordi's recent medical issues he's been out of work taking care of him. My husband has expressed that he is at the end of his rope and I personally feel backed into a corner when it comes to Geordis future. My husband and I are prepared to help pay for his medical care until he is placed. And even after, if the new family is willing to give us updates on Geordi we will continue to help pay for his care. We love him deeply and wish to do all we can to give him the happiest life. It's heartbreaking that he can't be with me anymore, he was 'my' dog and I've had him since he was 9 weeks old.
