A loving, cuddly companion looking for a peaceful home. Odin is a sweet and loyal 12-pound Miniature American Eskimo who will be turning 4 soon. He's incredibly affectionate-he loves to be held, snuggle in laps, and be close to his person. Before our second baby was born, Odin was my daily companion -he'd sit quietly on my lap while I drank my coffee and read, ride along in the car, and go everywhere with me. He is a true companion dog with so much love to give. But Odin also has high energy and anxiety, and despite consistent training, he struggles in our busy household. He needs daily walks, structured playtime, and most importantly, a low-stimulation home. He's house-trained but has had accidents recently due to additional stress, and he's currently on vet-prescribed Prozac to help with anxiety. He also shows food guarding behaviors and tries to steal food from hands, which has become a safety concern with young children in the home. While Odin knows basic commands and is trained with a beeper collar, he becomes overstimulated easily-jumping, barking, overwhelming visitors and our children. He also has separation anxiety, which may be due to how bonded we were before our lifestyle shifted with a new baby. My children and I recently went to visit family and left Odin at home with my husband. He was the picture of a perfect, happy dog while we were away but instantly fell back into poor behaviors and high anxiety once the stimulation (me and the kiddos) returned. Odin would thrive in: %A0%A0%A0%A0'ۢ%A0%A0%A0%A0A child-free, dog-savvy home %A0%A0%A0%A0'ۢ%A0%A0%A0%A0A calm environment with structure and affection %A0%A0%A0%A0'ۢ%A0%A0%A0%A0A home where someone is often present (work from home or retired) Though it breaks my heart to make this post, we want to find a home that truly understands his needs and can give him the calm, connected life he deserves.
