Meet BullyBones BullyBones is a 110-pound American Bulldog who would thrive in a home with experienced handlers of large breeds. He's fiercely loyal to my daughter and me, but he's fearful of most strangers-especially if introductions are rushed. When he becomes frightened, he can react defensively, so he needs someone who understands how to work patiently and compassionately with a big dog that requires clear boundaries. Size & Background: Approximately 110 lbs and full of eager energy. We rescued him from the woods after someone dumped him-he bonded quickly with us but remains shy around unfamiliar faces. Temperament: A loving, protective pup once he trusts you-but he's not yet confident around people he doesn't know. He needs calm, consistent leadership to build his trust rather than hands-off or overly enthusiastic approaches. He loves our other dogs and cats. Extremely food motivated, but NOT food aggressive at all. We do not know if he is good with kids. Never tried. Health: Generally good health. He does have allergies and needs someone willing and able to keep them under control. He gets itchy and red. We have switched him from Apoquel to Dog is Human, but not sure if it's going to work well. He has had an episode of difficulty breathing in the past when he gets overheated or really scared. Ideal Home: An owner (or family) with prior experience handling large, strong dogs. A fenced yard is a must for his protection. He needs a home indoors. Someone who is comfortable delivering affectionate praise and firm, respectful guidance. A household willing to introduce BullyBones slowly-ideally one person at a time in a quiet setting-so he doesn't become scared and defensive. Training & Socialization Needs: We haven't been able to socialize him effectively on our own. He will need ongoing patience and positive reinforcement to learn that new people aren't threats. If you're nervous around big dogs or unfamiliar with confidence-building training, this isn't the right fit. Why He's Special: Despite his fears, BullyBones has a gentle side: he's calm in the house, enjoys chewing on sturdy toys, loves stuffed animals and loves a good belly rub from someone he trusts. With the right guidance, he can become a devoted companion who knows his place in the family pack. If you have a solid track record with large-breed rescue or training-especially dogs who need help overcoming fear-BullyBones could be your next success story. He's a great dog in search of an owner who can meet his needs head-on and help him grow into the confident, well-mannered companion he's meant to be.
