About SPICE

American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Spice - A Gentle Soul in Need of a Safe, Patient Home Personality & Home History Spice lived with 2 adults, 1 dog, 1 cat, and 2 guinea pigs - she was friendly and outgoing with other animals. Described as: Social, affectionate, active, playful. Enjoys: Being near her people, water/bath time, car rides, chew toys. Knows: 'Sit,' is crate-trained and walks well on leash with little pulling. Housetrained: Yes No bite history, no resource guarding, not touch-sensitive in home. ٤%A0 Current Behavior - Scared but Sweet Spice is extremely fearful in the shelter. She: Trembles, stress yawns, and freezes in her kennel. Pancakes or thrashes when leashed or encouraged to walk. Often needs to be carried out, though she's becoming more tolerant. Leans into petting and seeks closeness once she feels safe. Responds best to slow, kneeling approaches, treats, and calm voices. Despite her shelter stress: Spice seeks out affection when comfortable. She warms up and presses into handlers for rubs once in a quiet room. She has never shown aggression, only fear. %8F What She Needs Spice is best suited for: An adult-only home (no children under 13 due to fearfulness). A quiet, patient environment with a predictable routine. A New Hope Partner rescue or experienced foster to support her decompression. A home willing to build trust at her pace and help her come out of her shell. ٩ Medical Summary Healthy overall - no trauma, neglect, or signs of cruelty. Possibly pregnant, but no fetal development seen on X-ray/ultrasound. Currently eating inconsistently due to anxiety. On medications (Trazodone & Gabapentin) to support her mental health while in the shelter. ң Why Spice Deserves a Chance Spice has lived peacefully with other animals and was described as affectionate and playful. Her current fears are environment-based, not a reflection of her true personality. She's already shown glimpses of affection and connection when given time and space. She's shut down in the shelter, but in a home, she has the potential to blossom. Let's help this scared but sweet girl find a safe place to land. She deserves a loving home to rediscover joy.
