About Bruin

Mastiff / Great Dane
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Bruin is a 3 year old mastiff/dane, born in early December. He was the only boy out of his litter of 13 puppies! His mom is full mastiff and his dad is full Dane. He definitely takes after the mastiff side more as he's really thick all over and more of an orange color with an enormous head! He is the best boy we love him so so much! He's neutered and we had him professionally trained at sleep away camp when he was a puppy. He's amazing with our 3 kids ages 6, 2, and 7 months and he was great with our small senior dog (13yo 35lbs) who has passed away. Our neighbors also have chickens who sometimes wander into our yard and he's never gone after them, only curious and gave them a sniff. My husband occasionally takes him to work and he's always played great with the other dogs there. He's never had any food or toy aggression, our kids and us have literally stuck our whole hand in his mouth to get a toy and he just lets it happen. He's not a jumper, but definitely a leaner and if you don't have your footing he'll knock you over trying to get some love leaning into you. My 2 year old son has been having medical problems with his breathing and skin his whole life, we've taken him to every doctor and he's been on every medication with no improvement. A few months ago we had him allergy tested for environmental, chemical and animal allergies and found out that he is extremely allergic to dogs. This was the only thing he had a reaction to out of over 100 things he was tested for. His skin gets so irritated when he's at home that he scratches until he bleeds, his eyes swell, he gets a very tight cough, and he has sleep apnea due to the swelling in his nose and throat. We currently have him on oral and nasal allergy meds, an allergy shot and a steroid and most recently had a tonsillectomy and adenoid removal surgery, but he is still having trouble breathing. My son recently had a seizure in his sleep and the ENT said his airway is 90% blocked due to the swelling and it caused him to stop breathing and have the seizure. At this time we feel it is medically necessary to find Bruin a new home. This is one of the hardest things we've had to do, but my son needs to have a quality of life and it hurts so bad to have to tell him he can't cuddle with Bruin and to always have to separate them as they have grown up together and are best friends. I don't even know where to begin with this and I want Bruin to have the best life he can with people that will love him and give him everything he needs and wants. He's a BIG boy, close to 250lbs now and he's beautiful. He loves to lounge around on the couch, lay on top of anyone who will let him, play with his bones, dig in the yard (never to escape just to make a hole and lay in it) and he will do anything for the smallest treat. He was born in Massachusetts, lived in Louisiana the first 2 years of his life and now we are stationed in North Carolina for the last year due to my husbands military career. Please let me know if there is any way you might be able to assist us or if you know of any resources that could help. Thank you so much. I have plenty more pictures upon request and any info you would like to know just ask!
