MALINDA IS AVAILABLE TO ADOPT, SHELTER IS ASKING FOR HELP DUE TO BEING ALMOST AT CAPACITY and MALINDA BEING QUITE SHY. WE ARE THEREFORE DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A PATIENT AND LOVING HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE TO SAVE HER IN TIME. RESCUES NEED FOSTERS TO HELP! Please help us find a loving home for darling Malinda as she has been fondly named. The shelter just reached out to us to let us know that she has been found as a stray in neglected condition, very scared at first. However, they just got her on a leash and walked her a bit. The rescue coordinator let us know that with a full shelter, 'this pup may be at risk of euthanasia due to her extremely fearful behavior, at this time she does not have a deadline, but that can change quickly.' Malinda has been estimated to be 2 - 3 years old and weighs only 42 lbs so she is perfect size. We are looking for someone chow savvy or familiar with shy dogs like this as we feel Malinda will warm up more once she feels safe. The shelter emailed us 5/27 and said, 'She is very fearful, and does not walk well on leash. Today I got her to walk a few steps out of her kennel, but that was it. She tolerated me touching her, but remains very fearful and shut down. She did eat a lot of my chicken jerky treats, but did not want pupperoni treats, and hasn't eaten the dry food in her kennel. She showed mild interest in sniffing the dog in kennel next to her, then pulled away from another dog that was barking at her.' She basically sounds like she is being a typical scared chow in a shelter environment. While they shelter said, 'Apparently healthy at this time, matted and stressed', Malinda may have some mild entropion and likely needs some lubricating eye drops (or goop removed from her eyes). We could ask the shelter to examine her better when she would undergo spay surgery for an adopter. The shelter let us know if anyone is interested in her, 'they can come directly to the east side shelter, 8920 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM 87112. All adoption fees are waived, and pets are fully vetted (spay/enter, microchip, vaccines, hw test) before leaving the shelter.' They plan to start her on gabapentin for stress, and would shave her mats with spay surgery too. However, if you need further help, or are interested to foster, or foster to adopt, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap as we are trying to find fosters we can then refer to a rescue group to save her in time. If you have another dog, we encourage you to request a dog test or meet and greet.
