Courtesy Posting: URGENT AT BALDWIN PARK, CA (SO CAL) ID #A5700911 LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES - 'COALTON' MAY BE ADOPTABLE AFTER TEMP TEST, BUT MAY NEED FOSTER AND RESCUE - 55 LB GENTLE, 8 YR MALE CHOW - looking for a LOVING, FOREVER HOME, FOSTER, FOSTER TO ADOPT AND OR A RESCUE TO SAVE HIS LIFE! We are in urgent need of finding a responsible and caring home, or foster and rescue, for this adorable but very neglected, sweet male chow who was found as a stray and brought to the shelter on 5/20. He is expected to become urgent following his stray hold ending on or about 5/25. We are calling him Coalton, and the shelter estimates him to be at least 8 years of age. Despite his very matted black coat that has turned to brown due to utter neglect, this dear boy seems to be so gentle. He can be seen being very calm and gently and happily taking treats in video we have from a shelter volunteer. The shelter said he weighs 55 lbs and came in with a slight limp, so they have given him gabapentin and rimadyl, that seems to be helping. They also did xrays that reveal some spondylosis, so Coalton will likely need to be on gabapentin the remainder of his life for mobility. We understand many dogs with this condition live satisfactory lives, although they may be somewhat limited in flexibility and range of motion. That's okay, as Coalton enjoys just chilling. He also had as crusty nose and fly strike on his ear. A copy of his full medical report may be requested. Coalton is now awaiting his behavior temperament test before he is made adoptable. Hopefully he passes both behavior and medical, or he will be made Rescue only. If Rescue Only, any potential adopters will need to go through a rescue group. And most rescues will either need a foster or a foster to adopt to save him. Therefore, if you may be interested in fostering, fostering-to-adopt, or helping Coalton in some other way (ie., pledging for his rescue), please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and we can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Potential adopters and Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at: [email protected] and by calling: 626-962-3577 or 626-430-2378 and providing his ID.
