LOCATION: Falls City, Nebraska DOB: 02/07/2024 Meet Sweet Pea - A Shy Soul with a Goofy Heart Sweet Pea is a black and white beauty who lives up to her name in every way. This gentle Great Dane may be timid at first, but give her time and you'll see her bloom into the sweetest, goofiest companion you could ask for. Her personality unfolds more each day, and once she feels safe, she becomes a snuggly, playful girl who just wants to be near her people. She's a true lover of ear scratches-she'll sit for hours soaking them up-and has a serious affection for cozy blankets. Whether it's draped over her on the couch or tucked in with her in her kennel, a soft blankie is her comfort zone. Sweet Pea also finds safety in her crate and will retreat there when she's feeling overwhelmed, so a quiet corner and a crate of her own are must-haves in her forever home. Sweet Pea is house-trained, crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and rides comfortably in the car. She's still building her confidence and can be a bit of a scaredy-cat at times, doing a comical Scooby-Doo-style run when startled. Loud noises or crying babies can make her uneasy, so a calm home with older children who can respect her space would be ideal. She does well with respectful introductions and has made great progress-she may not bark at visitors at all if given a little time and space to get used to them. Her foster home has three cats and she gets along beautifully with them, often trying to play when she's feeling energetic. She's also done wonderfully with every dog she's met, regardless of size or gender. Sweet Pea truly thrives around other dogs and would do best in a home with a large canine friend to show her the ropes and help her feel secure. She's eager to play, and having a buddy to romp with keeps her out of mischief and helps boost her confidence. Sweet Pea has an elegant presence-she often sits with her front paws crossed like the graceful lady she is-but don't be fooled. She has a silly side, loves daily walks, and isn't above stealing a sock or two when she's in the mood for fun. She's not exactly a velcro Dane, but don't expect much personal space either. She loves to be close, whether curled up next to you on the couch or tucked beside your bed at night. Though she came into rescue malnourished and unsure of the world, Sweet Pea has shown just how much heart and joy she has to offer. All she needs now is a patient, loving home with another dog to guide her, plenty of quiet encouragement, and someone who appreciates the quiet triumph of watching a shy dog come into her own.
