Hobo was found in a grocery store parking lot in August 2024. It was 111 degrees out, and he was stumbling out in the open near the front of the store at 230pm. I thought he had been struck by a car. Anytime I've attempted to catch a stray cat they've hid but he seemed to not see anyone. He was panting, drooling, and surely burning his little feet on the asphalt. He collapsed on his side under a car, and I knew I didn't have long before the car owner came out, so I laid down and pulled him out. He could only fight me a little before I had him in a towel and in my car. I didn't think he was going to make it but I couldn't see him suffering like that. I couldn't afford an ER vet, but I tried to cool him down with cool towels, and tried to drop water on his tongue. He panted for over an hour. Long story short, he survived. He's been to the vet a few times; first to check for a chip, have blood work, and they said he was between 1-2 years old. No chip, all bloodwork was negative. He doesn't seem to have the best vision and I don't know if that's from before that day or a result of heat exhaustion :( Got him his vaccinations and de-wormed to be safe, and then I got him neutered. It took about two months to get him socialized to us. He was first in my bathroom, then in a catio in my son's room, then loose in my son's room. He is incredibly friendly, curious, and the most energetic cat I've ever seen. I've had cats all my life, but he has the energy of a puppy! He will play fetch for hours. He only sleeps if you sleep, and even then he'll usually get up at dawn and start playing with toys by himself. He has never tried to bite or scratch us, and loves all humans and all attention. He's basically a cat-dog and literally trots behind you anywhere you go. But no matter what I've done, and I'll just say I introduced him incredibly slowly to my cats 4 months after he was in his own room, in short supervised visits with pheromone plug-ins and feeding them treats simultaneously and separating them as soon as one hissed or growled, he has decided he wants to chase and start fights with my female cat. My son and I love him, and he's just the most loving to humans, silliest, smartest cat, but for whatever reason, he wants to be the boss of her. He sniffs my male cat, but only tries to chase my female. She's incredibly stressed. So every day I have to shut him back in a bedroom when I go to work. Then let my cats outside when I get home and let Hobo run around. (He has very little interest in going outside himself.) Then at bedtime I have to shut him in his bedroom again, and I feel terrible for all of them. He's losing it with boredom, and if he's out mine are scared and hiding from him. He might be fine around other cats, I don't know if it's just this dynamic or what. I'll be sad to give him up but if there is anyone out there who may want a goofy, very intelligent, highly playful, 2-year old, 8 lb cat-who-acts-like-a-puppy that may not see the best but just wants a best friend, then we would be thrilled to get him into a family he can thrive in!
