Jackson is a young purebred English Labrador Retriever who will be two years old in June. We have had him since he was an 8-week-old puppy. He is fully house and crate trained and knows his basic commands. Jackson is a high energy dog who does well with other dogs that match his energy level and are not overly submissive and he would benefit from a playmate who fits this description. He currently goes to daycare 2 days a week and does well there with both the people and other dogs. In many ways Jackson is a typical young lab, but he does have some challenges. He has a tendency for hyper-reactivity and does have fear and aggression issues. We manage this by removing environmental stimuli which may trigger unwanted behavior, medications, and positive reinforcement training. I believe he will do well with continued and consistent training and medication. Our situation regarding wanting to rehome him revolves around 2 primary things. 1. Our 11-year-old dog is too submissive for Jackson and having him in our home has been detrimental to her. 2. He has some guarding behaviors towards food (which we manage well) and towards me. He is good with me but will get territorial and show aggression towards others in some situations. He has had poor interaction with most others in my household and the situation is not good for him or us. He is not getting the consistent training and environment he needs to succeed. I will be very transparent about his good and poor traits as well as the medical history we have with a veterinary behavioralist. He does have a bite history and I would not recommend him for a home with small children or one that cannot provide him a calm environment or the continued training and medication he needs.
