Just a young pup, EIGHT arrived at the shelter under heartbreaking circumstances. Brought in as a 'stray' by his owner's siblings, his world was suddenly upended when they explained that the owner-facing health struggles-could no longer care for him. Shelter staff immediately recognized this puppy's sweet and affectionate nature, and despite his initial illness, he fought his way back to health with unwavering spirit. While the shelter originally speculated that Eight might have had Leptospirosis, further testing and observation confirmed that was not the case. He has since made a full recovery, proving his resilience. The vet staff finds him endearing, seeking attention, wagging and rolling on his back for affection, and easily handled during medical care. However, outside of that environment, Eight remains highly social with his handlers but struggles with dog reactivity, overwhelmed by the presence of other dogs in the shelter. If you can open your home to foster or adopt Eight through a New Hope rescue, message our page today-we will be here to support you every step of the way. He is very treat-motivated, making food a valuable tool to help you work with him, and build confidence and trust as he transitions into his new life in your home. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I would do best in a home with only adult humans.
