American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Chipper - A Young Pup Seeking a Second Chance Why He's Here Chipper was brought in as a stray on May 3, 2025, so his past life is a mystery. What's clear now is that this young dog is struggling with shelter life and needs a more suitable environment to decompress and heal. ٤%A0 Behavior Overview Affectionate with select staff: Seeks out attention, cuddles into handlers, enjoys treats and enrichment. Sensitive to handling: Struggles with being leashed, especially when returning to kennel - may thrash, bite leash, and alligator roll. Fearful/anxious in kennel: Displays heavy panting, pacing, head-shyness, and occasional resistance to touch or pressure. Leash reactivity: Leash biting and panic behaviors escalate in high-stress moments, especially after outdoor time. %90%BE The Good Stuff Affectionate once comfortable - leans in for pets, seeks contact, and enjoys attention in calm settings. Walks politely on leash once outside and calmed down. Enjoys frozen puzzle toys, treats, and gentle enrichment games. Showed friendly interest in other dogs through a fence, though a proper introduction will be needed. ٤ What Chipper Needs New Hope Partner placement with a patient, experienced handler and a quiet, adult-only home. Structured decompression period and a safe environment where he can learn at his own pace. Positive reinforcement-based training focused on leash handling desensitization and building trust. No children under 13 due to handling sensitivities. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is strongly encouraged. ٩ Medical Notes Currently recovering from CIRDC (kennel cough) and being treated with antibiotics. Healing from a minor oral wound, likely from self-trauma or chewing; no long-term concerns. Clinically healthy with no signs of neglect or abuse on intake. On Clonidine to help manage anxiety and reactivity. What ACC Staff Say 'Chipper has a sweet side and clearly wants connection. He just needs a calm space, a slow approach, and someone who understands him. With time and patience, he has the potential to be a wonderful companion.' | Summary Chipper is a sweet but sensitive dog looking for his shot at a new life outside the shelter walls. He's not a fit for every home, but with the right partner or foster, he has a strong chance to thrive. Chipper needs a safe space to learn, decompress, and begin to trust again. A VOLUNTEER WRITES: 'AT RISK! When you look up 'dog' in the dictionary, you get Chipper. He is just a classically handsome boy that easily turns heads and wins compliments. Outside in the yard, Chipper is sweet, social, soft and playful. He clearly loves his toys, piling them all up around him to chew, and occasionally taking a break from playing to indulge us in some cuddles. His note indicate he presses himself into people's chest, nuzzling as much as doggedly possible. Chipper was found alone in an apartment with a kitty sibling, who has since been adopted. Chipper is at risk due to his struggle returning to his kennel. He is available for new hope partners and his id is #226263.' THE VOLUNTEERS MADE THIS ABSOLUTELY SWEET BOY A REEL. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO WATCH, THEN RUSH TO SAVE HIS LIFE! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16CobRyU2N/ What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. CHIPPER, ID# 226263, 3 Yrs.
