Experience with herding dogs required. Ruby is a 40 lb, female spayed, 3 year old cattle dog mix. We adopted her when she was about a year old. She is very sweet and loves adults. She has been fond of my son and has slept in bed with him for the last year and a half. She's healthy and gets along with my boxer. We have 2 cats and she chases them, but, as our cats are quite dog experienced, she also kind of fears them. She is a cattle dog, so she talks back. She likes it best when everyone is together. She can also be a bit mouthy. As with most cattle dogs, hierarchy is important, and she gets a little jealous of the other dog when he gets attention. She has nipped my son (13 yo) a few times and, at his begging and pleading, we continued to work with her. She never hurt him, but left a bruise or two. One time when he went to cuddle her at night, she bit him in the face. Two punctures on his cheek. He is fine, other than a broken heart. Unfortunately, even as he begs us not to rehome her, that's a deal-breaker for us and is her final chance. My son is devastated, but we can't wait for something catastrophic to happen before we take this seriously. She really is a good dog and we have so much love for her. However, our son is top priority and we are going to find her a more appropriate home. We are looking for a good, active, adult home for her with plenty of room to run. She is a good dog, but needs the right family, preferably a home without children. This was not an easy decision, but it is what we feel is best for our family. Thank you for considering her.
