About Shalom

Shalom is a 5-year-old, 30-pound rat terrier mix who recently lost her front right leg. This girl was obviously loved before. Someone took the time to teach her. She's housebroken, quiet, knows basic commands, is good on a leash, and well-behaved on car rides. She was picked up as a stray with a brachial plexus injury and ended up on the euth list in the county shelter in rural Georgia. We got her out with only an hour and a half to spare. After a month and a half of intense physical therapy, we were unable to restore any use to her leg so she had to undergo an amputation. She gets around amazingly well on three and can even do stairs. She has no ongoing health issues. She's current on vaccines, spayed, healthy, and HW negative. Shalom does well with other dogs when introduced properly, but does get jealous and will pry herself between them and you to vie for your attention. She has a friend here with whom she even likes to wrestle. With cats, it's a toss-up. She's lived with ours but can be a pain in the rear to the kitty. She's not vicious, just nosy and annoying and will nip at them. IF well supervised, it could work, but a home without cats would be better for her. We do have one odd requirement for her new home; she needs to be allowed to sit on the couch with her head on her person's lap. She loves to be loved and can't get enough attention. The only thing that might be interpreted as a negative is that she does have some abandonment issues. An adopter who is home most of the time would be a huge plus for her. She doesn't mind being left for a few hours when there's another dog to keep her company, though.
