He an approximate 1 yr, 4 month old chow who adopted as a puppy from a breeder who represented him to be AKC but did not provide papers. Unfortunately, the owner's HOA will not allow Zen, and the owner is being asked to find a new home by the end of the month. He does not want to bring him to the shelter which is full, and his owner contacted us for help. The owner says 'Zen is friendly with people when introduced properly - as is typical with most Chow Chows. He needs proper introductions and time to bond. He's not recommended for households with infants, young children, or individuals who may not understand his need for personal space. He also needs proper introductions with other dogs and should not interact with unleashed dogs without supervision.' However, he clarified, 'Zen has never bitten anyone or any animal.' Zen's owner also said he is microchipped, lives indoors and is said to be fully potty trained and has no known medical issues. He added, 'Behaviorally, he just needs respectful handling, slow introductions, and structure - common for the breed. Zen is naturally assertive but listens well once he forms affection and trust toward someone. He responds best to people who understand his boundaries and can provide consistent, respectful care.' Zen will need to be brought current on his vaccinations which may be done or paid for by the current owner. He will also have to be neutered as a condition of the adoption. Sorry, we do not do transport to private homes unless a rescue is involved due to risks of a home or dog not working out for any reason, although the owner may be able to possibly meet part way. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior or current chows, and a signed adoption contract.
