About Koda

Anatolian Shepherd mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

I am creating this profile with a heavy heart. My wife passed in October 2024, and mostly due to TBI, I have been having somewhat serious financial issues. I am on a fixed income (VA Disability), and keeping up with necessary bills has become overwhelming. I live in the Houston, Texas area and am a 52-year-old army veteran with several military/age-related issues, which are making it more difficult every day to keep up on even basic responsibilities. I tell you this because it's affecting my ability to properly care for my boy. Since I am unable to keep up with the medical care that Koda needs, I am looking for someone who can give him the attention and care that he deserves, but I don't know anyone (whom I trust) who can/will. Several months ago, Koda did something to his leg and now has a limp. I have been able to get him the medication and keep him slowed down with the help of family, but this isn't something that can last forever. Also, Koda is on a prescription diet (Hill's Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome Chicken flavor, approx. $131.09/bag) My wife and I rescued Koda several years ago to 'replace' our boy, Chase, who had passed away. Koda had been found wandering in Houston and was brought into Houston Pets Alive rescue, where my wife and I instantly fell in love. I started taking him for walks (which he loves!) several months after bringing him home, and he quickly learned to walk without pulling too much on the leash. It's been almost a year since we've gone for our walks because of back/nerve issues I have. Hos yard has an acre that he can run and play, but he loves going for walks, and I feel that because of my limitations, he is suffering. Koda is an absolute privilege to have. He gets along with just about every animal, loves getting scratches, and protects the property from those evil delivery drivers, trespassers (both 2 and 4-legged), and those sketchy CIA squirrels. I feel like a total failure for having to get to this point because I know that I am ripping him from his home, but I am hoping that by doing this, he will find a family that can give him the life he deserves. It's going to be very hard letting him go, but his health and well-being are far more important than my feelings.
