About Milo

I have been trying since December and still have not been able to find Milo a new home. As our baby grows older, Milo's behavior towards him makes us very nervous. Please help find him a good fitting forever home!! It breaks our hearts to be posting this but as I said below, we know this is what's best for Milo. Please share and help us find him the best home possible. Milo is a 4 year old, 30 lb. neutered male mix out of Phelps, NY and is an Australian Shepard/Border Collie Mix. He is a very high energy dog that just wants love and attention. His most favorite thing to do is cuddle as he gives the best doggy hugs I've ever had. Milo is incredibly smart (too smart for his own good it seems) and easily trainable. He is completely housebroken (I can count on 1 hand the number of accidents we've had in the 4 years we've had him) and knows all of the basic commands. We have tried going beyond the basic commands, but unfortunately life has gotten in the way of us really being able to dedicate the time in perfecting everything. We have spent a lot of time and money into training him for walking on a leash and trying to get his guarding/possessive side under control. He does super well with the trainers, but it never translates at home with us. Milo loves being outside, especially in the snow, and playing fetch. We do keep him on a long line when we play and he goes potty in a pen. I believe he could do really well with recall, we've just never had the space to practice it. Milo did show herding tendencies with small children when he was a puppy and as he got older he barked at children, so we have chosen to keep him away from children. Watching him with out new born, we think he will do best in a home with teenagers and up, no small kids (this is what has made us really accept this decision). He has always been fine with adults and long as they have a confident demeanor around him, if he can tell you're nervous he gets nervous too and barks a lot. The trainers we have worked with have told us Milo is a follower who has taken on a leader role which has caused him to develop a lack of confidence and resulted in his behavioral problems. We have another small dog and a cat. He has gotten in a tiff with our small dog when guarding something, but otherwise has done well. He does like to chase the cat, but has never harmed him. He has been boarded at least once a year and plays in the play groups with other dogs with no problems. I truly think he could be the best dog in the world with the right people. It breaks our hearts to accept that we just aren't those people for him. Since we have had our new born at home it has seemed to worsen his behaviors. We want to just see him go to a home that can give him all the time and attention he deserves. He could really use a home that can 'assign him jobs' and where he can run around and get his energy out in a better way. We will evaluate potential adopters to make sure its the best fit for Milo. We love him so much and just want the best for him. We are willing to assist with transporting him to his new home.
