About Nicki

Nicki came in to rescue yesterday 5/13/25. She has a birth date of 3/11/20. As you can see in the picture Nicki is missing the tips of her ears. The breeder told us when we picked her up that this injury happened when she was a puppy. That she was being housed beside a larger dog that had pulled her through the fence and chewed the tips of her ears off. This is absolutely heartbreaking!!!! This injury has not affected Nicki, she is extremely sweet and loving. She had her first bath ever yesterday and did great once she realized she was safe and how good it felt. She slept in a clean soft doggy bed and is doing great. Nicki will be heading to our vet this next week for her spay and full vetting. We are currently letting her settle in right now. Nicki will need a fenced yard at her new home. She currently does not walk on a leash and will need time and patience to settle in to a new home. Nicki is a bit shy and fearful of new things as she has lived in a kennel/breeding facility. She has not lived her life in a loving home with the security of a family to care for her. She has bonded with us here at the rescue already and loves to run in the big yard. Nicki does not yet understand what toys are and that it's ok to play with them as we believe she has never had one of her own before. She will blossom for her new family with time and love. We do get to see her happy/silly side here as she knows she is safe and loved. Nicki does well with other dogs, however we did introduce her to a dog a little larger than her yesterday and she seemed very unsure of it. It was another female, but Nicki did run and did seem a bit frightened. She does very well with smaller dogs as she does play with the dachshund and 2 5 month old smaller breed puppies we currently have here in rescue. This could possibly just have been a stranger/danger reaction from her. But several larger dogs in a home for her would probably, at this point be to overwhelming for her. Please know we do require an application to be filled out and approved prior to meeting our rescues and we do require all of our adopters to come to us to adopt, we do not transport our rescues or ship them. We feel it is very important that you meet our rescues in an environment they feel safe in and that not only they are a good fit for you, but you for them as well.
