HARDEE is a 3-year-old, 17.2-pound Chihuahua mix who has come a long way and is ready for a real family of his own. After a rough beginning that included abuse, HARDEE is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cared for. He can still flinch if approached too quickly, especially around his head, but once trust is earned, his sweet and devoted personality shines through. This little guy is incredibly affectionate and thrives on connection. HARDEE loves curling up in blankets, settling into a lap, learning new things, and soaking up attention from his people. He is a cuddly, kissy boy who truly just wants a family that will take care of him and provide the structure he needs to feel secure. With guidance and consistency, he relaxes and gains confidence, and his bond with his person becomes strong and loyal. HARDEE can be nervous with strangers and visitors, so slow introductions and a calm, confident handler are important. He does best with someone who understands nervous dogs and can gently help him navigate new situations without overwhelming him. Because quick, unpredictable movements make him uncomfortable, HARDEE should not be placed in a home with children. We do not know how he would be with cats. When it comes to other dogs, HARDEE generally does best with female dogs his size and can enjoy having a playful canine companion. He does not do well with male dogs. He is an active little guy who needs regular stimulation and exercise. He loves walks, runs with his family, zoomies, tug-of-war, hide-and-seek, and playtime. A fenced yard is a must so he can safely burn off energy and explore. HARDEE is fully housebroken and has excellent potty habits. At night, he's happy sleeping in his own bed or curled up next to his people, and mornings always begin with affectionate snuggles. He's looking for an experienced, patient home that will give him structure, activity, and reassurance. In return, he'll give unwavering loyalty, affection, and a whole lot of heart. HARDEE is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
