Some things in my life have taken a turn and its made me realize that Orion and I are just not right for each other. Ive had her since she was 3 months old and she turned 6 in November. The entire time I've had her I've battled with sever social anxiety and depression which has held her back from being the best dog she can be. She has resource guarding issues with other animals, though it has remained mild if she familiar with the other dogs or cat. She has NEVER harmed any other animals and gets along great with both my cats. She has been high anxiety since I got her as a puppy and has a slight aversion so men which I think developed in the few months before we got her, but ultimately warms up to everyone and ends up loving every single person she meets. My biggest 'issues' I've found with her and I is that although she truly is a great dog all around, but because of her anxiety, higher energy, resource guarding issues, barking at any and all stranger near the house and that she sees outside and even just sounds and voices, I just don't know HOW to help her overcome these while also trying to help myself with my own mental health struggles. I truly was not prepared as a first time dog owner. She also did have a major health scare back in August of 2022 where she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, which led to her being unable to walk and keep food down and she had developed aspiration pneumonia due to throwing up everything. With medication it subdued and for the past many years she has been fine, but the vets did say it could always possibly come back. This all had cost close to 10k in vet bills because she needed around the clock care. She also tore a ligament prior to that when she was running in the yard and though it doesn't cause major issues, she does have a slight limp still and doesn't get around AS well as when she was younger and is something that should be kept in mind. While she does like other dogs, she has also been bit by two when she was younger, one that required stiches in her leg, so shes a bit apprehensive at first. She loves cats and honestly even small animals, as I have had ferrets and she played well with them, her only issues is she does forget is bigger than all of them. My younger cat and her play fight a lot. She is not crate trained as the person who had her prior I think used it as punishment and she would bark and cry the whole night and pee just so we'd take her out. She also does get some separation anxiety, due mostly to the fact that I've always lived in a smaller place and don't get out much and HATES to be confined and WILL bark the whole time and even scratch at the door and floor. She is SMART though, and I know with time and the right person Orion could truly be such an amazing dog. I love her so much, and feel I have failed her, so the least I can do is just find her the best place.
