About Rip

Meet Rip, a two year old Border Collie with a very affectionate and loyal personality. Rip has good energy and would make a lovely jogging partner, and loves to play with his soccer ball. In the home, Rip settles nicely and just wants to be wherever you are. He does well being alone for short periods of time 2-4 hours but would not do well being left alone all day. He would love another doggie sibling to make him feel more confident when you're gone, but he's happy to be your one and only dogs well. He plays super well at the dog park and gets along with all types of dogs and tends to match their energy when playing. He absolutely adores children and does well with them and is very gentle. The only negative thing I have noticed is Rip tends to be very reactive towards bikers, people from a distance , and big delivery trucks, and of course squirrels. Whether we're in the car, or on a leash, or behind a fence he wants to lunge and chase them. Rip would require a very secure fence but it doesn't need to be more than 4' high. I crate him while in the car for safety and to reduce his reactivity towards trucks. I have been fostering Rip for the last three months for a family that sadly could not keep him due to a military move, and I would keep him if I didn't have health issues that prevent me from giving him the exercise he needs. I have been working with trainers on his reactivity and we have begun nose work classes where he has done exceptionally well in this line of work. I hope his new owner can continue this training with him as I believe it will continue to direct his focus and reduce his reactivity. Please help Rip find an active family who wants an affectionate loyal companion.
