About Ru

Ru is a 6-year-old mixed breed and a truly loyal, loving companion. She's well-trained, responsive to commands, and an excellent snuggler. She loves outdoor time and would benefit from access to a backyard or safe area to run. While she gives love to all people that she is familiar with, she is instantly friendly with all women. Due to life and work changes, and extended periods of travel, we're no longer able to provide the care and attention she deserves. While she is deeply loved by our family and friends, none of them are in a position to give her the consistent support she needs. Ru was trained by a former canine police dog trainer and responds well to structure and clear boundaries. One of her main sensitivities is food-related-she can become protective of her meals or treats, so she does best in a home where her space is respected during feeding times. She's can get stubborn around busy streets, particularly with loud cars or unexpected movement. However, she's been trained to redirect her attention using a zap collar, which gently redirects her focus when she becomes overwhelmed. With this tool and consistent reinforcement, her anxiety is very manageable. Ru may need a slow introduction to other pets, especially around food or when resting, but she is generally social and well-behaved when her boundaries are respected. With an experienced, attentive owner, she will be a deeply loyal and loving companion. This was an extremely difficult decision to make, but necessary given our current work and living circumstances. I am hopeful that we can find a family who will love her as much as we do. Having her in my life has been one of the greatest joys. Ru is a special dog with so much love to give. She just needs a calm, patient home where she can feel safe and understood.
