Courtesy posting: SOUTH GATE (NR LOS ANGELES), CA (S CAL)- BEAUTIFUL FEMALE CHOW 'KOI' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME W/ BREED EXPERIENCE/PRIOR OWNERSHIP Please help us find a chow savvy home for stunning Koi, an approximate 4 year old purebred girl. She was adopted as a young puppy from a well known breeder back east, but was given to her grandparents to keep when the owner moved. However, her grandparents are elderly and unable to take her on daily walks, and she has been struggling with the other female dogs in the home, and the reason for the rehoming. On the positive side, the original owner let us know 'she lets everyone grab her, hug her and give her pats and skritches. But I don't think she would let a stranger do that unless she's used to them. When she has been on a leash around other people or dogs, she's alert and watchful but not outwardly aggressive. She does not lunge or bark, just keeps her distance and observes. Koi is okay with groomer, she's been to a regular groomer and a mobile groomer and has also done fine at vet visits. Koi is potty trained and lives both indoor and outdoor. My grandparents have a doggy door that she has access to at all times. Koi is current on shots but has not yet been spayed. I will pay for her to get spayed before she goes to a new home.' The owner also let us know, 'She is not walked regularly. My grandparents are elderly and unable to take her for daily walks. She has access to the yard, but exercise is limited'. This has also unfortunately led to a few bites, the owner explained, ' There have been a few incidents over the last two years. Most of them occurred when my grandparents were trying to break up fights between Koi and their other dogs.' She has not had any training in her past, and also just went after a small male dog in the home more recently. Therefore, we feel Koi would do best as an only dog, and would also benefit with some training. If you are breed savvy and are interested in meeting and adopting Koi in person, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with her placement. Sorry, we do not do transport to private homes unless a rescue is involved due to risks of a home or dog not working out for any reason. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior or current chows, and a signed adoption contract. Koi will be required to be spayed as a condition of her adoption and will be paid for by the original owner.
