Poodle mix, 7 kg, 11 months old Ugo came into our care after his previous owner surrendered him at a veterinary clinic. The owner brought Ugo in with a bite wound and a broken front leg but refused to pay for surgery or hospitalization - asking instead for him to be euthanized. Thankfully, the attending vet managed to negotiate a surrender, giving Ugo a chance at life. He underwent several procedures under anesthesia and spent more than a week in a clinical recovery kennel. While his leg and bite wound healed nicely, his mental health deteriorated rapidly due to stress, injections, and confinement. He stopped eating, began vomiting, became anemic, and the clinic struggled to help him further. We took him into home care to give him a chance to heal emotionally. At first, it was tough - he refused most food, only nibbled at ham and sausage, and ate very little. But at least the vomiting stopped on day two, and we were able to get some nourishment into him. With the comfort of a couch, short walks, and lots of cuddles, Ugo began to eat again - and now happily devours even plain dog kibble! Ugo is both a cuddle bug and a stubborn little guy. He doesn't like being alone and would do best with a calm female dog companion. When left by himself, he scratches at the door. He enjoys being outside and would love a home with a yard - but he must live indoors, as he doesn't handle cold weather well. He has no training and doesn't respond to commands. He needs peace and quiet while eating, and may snap if disturbed around food. He likes children, but can be wary of some adults. He must not be walked off-leash - he has been known to attack even large dogs. Though he gets along with some dogs, his complete lack of training makes him a risk in certain situations, and next time he may not be so lucky. We are looking for a patient and consistent home for Ugo - someone willing to work with him and help him become the happy dog he deserves to be. Ugo will first go into foster care, and adoption contracts will only be signed after he has been fully vaccinated and neutered.
