Courtesy Posting: 'KAI' THE CHOW/RETR LIKE PUPPY AT PIMA ANIMAL CARE CENTER- NEEDS LOCAL MEDICAL FOSTER FOR AFTER CARE SO THEY CAN PROVIDE SURGERY FOR DISLOCATED HIP! KAI CAN ALSO BE ADOPTED, OR FOSTERED FOR A RESCUE IF FURTHER AWAY- only 41 lbs and 1 year old! Great behavior notes, good with people and other dogs We are in urgent need of finding a local foster or adopter for this dear young boy so the shelter can provide much needed FHO surgery, and he then has a place to recuperate. Fondly named Kai by the shelter, he was found as a stray after being hit by a car and rushed to a vet who contacted the shelter. While he is in stable and mobile condition how, his limb was casted after a few broken toes, and he will need surgery for his dislocated hip which the shelter would perform the surgery once foster/adoptive placement is found. However, they can only schedule this surgery once they know he has a home to go to. Despite what Kai has been through, he still has great shelter behavior notes and is sweet. They state, 'We went to bring Kai out to playgroup and easily leashed him from outside the kennel. He was friendly and easy to leash but has a cast on his leg. He walked slowly and we didn't take him very far because of the cast and needing to get other dogs out, but he was easy to handle and very calm. BLUE: easy to leash and walk, friendly, goes slow' We also learned that Kai used to live with other dogs and even a cat, and he just turned one year old, although the shelter has him listed as age 2. His mom was apparently a purebred chow but it is unknown what breed his father was. The original owner just reached out to us after she lost her home, rehomed Kai to a family who apparently lost him on his first day, and asked for our help to find him. Apparently, he was then roaming for a few days and sadly was hit by a car, and then ended up at the local shelter. Even more sad, this new family did not reclaim him, perhaps not wanting to deal with his medical needs. So now poor Kai just sits and waits with a dislocated hip until someone to kindly offers to foster him locally, or can adopt him. He could also be fostered if further away for a willing rescue. If you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for his rescue), please email: [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, but please ALSO contact the shelter for local fostering (if in Pima county) at [email protected] and call 520-724-5987. Rescue groups and adopters may contact the shelter directly at [email protected] and by calling (520) 724-5614 and providing his ID.
