Courtesy posting: TUCSON, AZ - SOUTHERN ARIZONA HUMANE SOCIETY - ID #874462 'SIMBA'- ADORABLE, EASY GOING, LOVING, CHOW-DOG FRIENDLY AND ESTIMATED TO BE 9 YR OLD, ONLY 45 LBS- SO PERFECT SIZE! URGENT, SHELTER IS ASKING FOR HELP FOR THIS DEAR BOY- LOVING HOME, FOSTER (OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT) AND/OR RESCUE NEEDED ASAP Please help us find a loving home or foster (or foster-to-adopt) and/or rescue asap for this very handsome Simba who is listed as a 9 year old mix, although he may be a purebred. The shelter says, 'Simba is an easygoing and mellow dog who simply wants to be near you. He loves deeply, and that's both his greatest strength and his biggest challenge. He's a fan of pets and scratches and enjoys affection. While he's not an avid player, if he's in the mood, he'll happily play with a squeaky toy or even a ball. Simba is a bit of a 'prince' when it comes to his food preferences.' Some further information and behavior notes they provided are as follows: -Found as stray in January 2025 -Very friendly with people, easy to walk, no negative notes regarding kids -Curious, food-motivated, affectionate -Simba is good with most dogs. Used to live with a Chihuahua and Great Dane. He is well behaved and tolerant of reactive and excited dogs, but he avoids going too close to them. Prefers dogs smaller than him and respectful dogs. -We recommend no cats or small animals in the home. A cat meet was attempted in a foster home but Simba showed high prey drive. -Prone to escaping in kennel and causing self-injury, so we do not advise crating. Will jump a short door barrier/gate. -Routinely taken out to use the restroom; longest left alone was 8 hrs and he destroyed/ ingested some of his bed and chewed the drywall. -Previously, when in the shelter, the intake team was using him for dog meets for incoming strays for a while. They reported that he was very neutral and polite, seemed to enjoy meeting new dogs and was tolerant of reactive and bouncy dogs, would just avoid getting too close to them but never escalated or actively corrected. Simba is already neutered and ready to go home. He can be adopted through the shelter in person, or fostered by someone local, but you will need an advance appointment to meet Simba since he is now in foster care!
