About Hogie and Maple(bonded

Adoption Fee: $40
Domestic Cat
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Maple and Hogie, they are full siblings and are 2 and a half years old. They were born at the end of September in 2022. The black cat (Hogie) is a neutered male, and the grey cat (Maple) is a female that is not yet spayed. They are a bonded pair as they have been together since birth and we only want to see them go to a new home together. My fianc̩ and I have come to the decision to rehome them for a few reasons. First and foremost, we are expecting our first child in August and will not have the time we would like to care for them and cater to their needs. Secondly, we are quite certain that they would prefer a home where they are the only cats, but they are completely okay with dogs as long as the dog(s) are relatively understanding of basic boundaries. With our cat who we got before them, they often had scuffles over space and overall don't seem to enjoy each other's company and often startle and hiss at each other. This behavior is more prominent with Maple, Hoagie does like to play with other cats. But because they are bonded, that's why we find it best that there is no other cats in the household. We had a golden retriever and a German shepherd who they would constantly be around and would play and cuddle with them often. Our golden has since passed away from cancer this year and I can tell it's been hard on both of them without him. To go in a little more detail about each of them specifically, Hoagie is a very typical big boy who loves head scratches and belly rubs and just simply being in your company. He's not overly lovey dovey, but does like to lay at your feet or in between your legs, especially when it's wind down time. He isn't very fond of being picked up as he is a larger boy but he will come to you for attention and loves pets. He simply just doesn't like being constricted in a position like being held as it's probably pretty uncomfortable for him. He absolutely loves a bowl design in some kind of cat tower to lay and sleep in and LOVES to play with toy mice. With the mice, if he's comfortable he does like to play fetch with them too! With Maple, she is much more reserved than Hoagie is. She tends to keep to herself mostly. That is a pretty typical grey cat characteristic, and especially given that she's a female cat. She is the one who has the most problems with the more playful/young cats as she can be sensitive about her space, often hissing or displaying overreactions to other cats. I think she would be fine with other cats IF they are very chill and lazy and don't bother her much, but she still takes a while to get used to other cats in comparison to her brother. Though she is reserved, she can be a cuddle bug when she wants to be. She specifically loves to lay and sleep in between your legs when you're laying down and when sitting up, she will invite herself onto your lap. She does like some belly rubs sometimes as well like her brother! When she's laying on you, she likes to mostly be left alone but does appreciate being pet, but only when you take a slow approach because she can be startled by a lot and run away quickly. Same with when she approaches to lay on you, don't pay much attention to her or she might decide to skedaddle. That can be improved simply by spending quality time with her. Like her brother, she doesn't like to be picked up either. She does like the laser pointer a lot, to the point where she will tire herself out, so that is a nice way to bond with her. For the most part though, she mostly just likes to be on her own until she gets her cuddle outbursts, which is totally fine but requires a specific kind of owner to be okay with that. What we want most is for them to go to a loving home who will allow for them to thrive. We would love to keep in contact to get updates on them, as we do love them very much and want to know how they are doing even if they aren't with us anymore. If you are interested and/or have questions please feel free to contact me! We are located in Tacoma but can travel if a great home permits it!
