Courtesy posting: %BC TOTAL EMERGENCY! 1 YR OLD GIRL EUTH LISTED W BROKEN FEMUR AT BAKERSFIELD, CA (CENTRAL CALIFORNIA)- KERN COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES - ID #A1222047 -YOUNG CHOW/SHEPHERD X GIRL IN DIRE NEED OF FOSTER AND RESCUE, DOG FRIENDLY W FEMALE KENNEL MATE 47 LB 'MISS CHOWZER' SADLY HAS SAT AT SHELTER ALL WEEK WITHOUT AN EXAM or PAIN MEDS! TODAY 5/8, THEY JUST REALIZED SHE HAS A BROKEN FEMUR- AND SHE WILL BE EUTHANIZED IF NO ONE STEPS UP TO FOSTER OR RESCUE ASAP (RESCUES NEED A FOSTER AND PLEDGES TO HELP)- CAN BE EUTHANIZED AT ANY TIME!! Help! The Kern shelter rescue department contacted us on 5/3 letting us know this very young girl fondly named Chowzer was placed on the euth list as soon as her stray hold expired because she was initially displaying defensive, fearful behavior when she came in as many chows do (especially when they have a broken femur). However, Chowzer was already allowing petting on her nose, and taking treats gently as shown in videos we were given just after this. She is estimated to be only 1 year old, smaller at 47 lbs, and was found as a stray with a female lab/ pittie mix she is now kenneled with, although it is unclear if the dogs knew each other before. They told us she cannot be tested with others in playgroup due to her injury, but 'she did have a kennel mate and was wonderful with her'. We were able to get a slight extension for a few days and also requested a medical exam as something clearly seemed wrong as she was mostly laying there, and was noted to have a limp on her back leg. After following up 5/8 when no exam had still taken place, she was finally examined, had xrays and we were just told she has a broken femur-ouch!. We are unclear if she has any pain meds as the notes were given does not reflect any sadly. We again have requested such. Due to her urgency, if you are interested in fostering and are local, or local to a rescue in a position to help, or just need more information or want to help, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement before she is euthanized. Most rescues need a solid foster to save, and can also assist a foster or foster to adopt with medical care. To contact the shelter directly IF you are a rescue group, or if they may be able to foster through them if allowed, please provide her ID and call the rescue department at 661-549-4355 and 661-301-4635, as well as email [email protected] to inquire and note her ID. The shelter's regular phone is (661) 868-7100. This dog is currently Rescue only due to her needs, please speak to the rescue department if further info is needed.
