Hi, world! I am The Amazing Maci! I have been staying at a foster home in Charlottesville, VA and while it is a great place with other dogs to play with, I am ready to find a fun home, all my own, forever! I am about 1 %BD to 2 years old, but I didn't get much of a chance to be a puppy before I had puppies of my own. My foster mom thinks I am an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. My son, Bruce lived in Southwest Virginia in my first home with me, but my family had to give us both up because the landlord said so. When I got to my foster home, it looked like I might be having yet more puppies. My foster mom got me spayed, there were no puppies, and I don't have to worry about that anymore, thankfully. The vet and his assistants all loved me and commented on my great 'disposition'. Now my suture line is all healed, and I don't have to wear that huge white collar anymore. I really wanted to lick my itchy tummy, so my foster mom kept it on for the full two weeks. I never complained, even though it was scary when I bumped into people and doorways. Because the collar was so big, I learned to back into my crate when it was sleepy time. Now that the collar is gone, I still back into my crate at night and my foster mama laughs and says what a good girl I am. Then she gives each of us dogs three small treats. I sleep in my crate all night long, and when it is 7:00, I make a tiny noise, and my foster mom gets up and takes all of us outside. I don't like being left outside without my foster mom for very long, so I bark and bark. She tells me to stop, and I usually do, but I need to work on being out there without her and staying quiet. I am trying! Also, I am fully housetrained and have not made any mistakes. I love to be petted and when my foster mom rubs me all over! I especially like tummy rubs and ear scritches. A couple of days ago, my foster mom put me in a big white tub and wet me all over, and then added some sweet-smelling stuff, and rubbed me all over. I really liked being rubbed all over, and I liked the water tube that took all the bubbles away. After a while, I got rubbed with big towels and went outside to roll in the grass and dirt. It felt soooo good! Then yesterday, my foster mom took a toothed stick and dragged it all over me. I thought all my hair was coming out! After a long time, she stopped. I still had lots of hair! She told me how beautiful I am, and gave me lots of goodies for being so calm while she scratched me with that toothy thing. Today, I went back to investigate the big white tub. It looked so inviting that I jumped in and grabbed the green biscuit and ran into the other room to chew on it. She told me that was not for dogs, and might make me sick. She said it was 'soap'. I love my furry dog friends here! I play with them, and one tries to be the fun police and keep us from playing too hard. When I get too rough, it sounds like a fight, but it we haven't actually fought. I love to run really fast in the big yard. The other dogs try to catch me, but I am so fast! I like to play keep-away with the toys, too. My foster mom says I am an easy dog. I walk on a leash now without too much pulling, but that took a few weeks of practice. I wear a harness, because when I got here, a collar on my neck made me cough. I eat my food in a crate, but I can share plates and pans and treats with the other dogs without anybody getting crazy about who gets what. I would like a home with people who like me near them most of the time, although I do not get stressed when left home with the other dogs. I usually stay in a crate when the people will be gone for very long. There is a cat here, but she stays in the barn. I don't bark at her even when she is just outside the fence. I have not been tested with small children, but I would expect that I would like them, although sometimes I am a bit hyper and might accidentally knock a baby over. I am wicked smart, and love to learn new things, and I would probably like almost any sport! My foster mom says I am very 'athletic', whatever that is. She also says I am curious and like to try new things. I love to ride in the car, but I sometimes must be in a crate if only one person is in the car. I don't mind that. If I sound like your ideal new friend, well, here I am! I am up to date on my vaccinations and preventatives, microchipped and spayed. Here is the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to my new furever family.
