Janie is the kind of dog who quietly sneaks into your heart and stays there. She's a calm, senior lady who loves the simple things - soft naps, tasty snacks, and a cozy dog bed to curl up in. Crate trained but never needing it, Janie is easygoing and low-maintenance, often mistaken for a cat with her quiet nature and love of lounging. But don't be fooled - under that calm exterior is a dog who still gets excited about life. Janie sometimes has playful bursts of energy where she'll race around the yard like a puppy again. Watching her run is pure joy. It's as if, for those few moments, she forgets the weight of her past and just feels free. She adores children and was once part of a reading program where kids practiced reading aloud to her. She offered quiet encouragement with every turn of the page. Janie's history before she came to us is mostly unknown, but we do know she used to run away from her former home - and though she's never tried to escape ours, we suspect she may have been running from something, not to something. Possibly neglect. Possibly fear. She is a very sensitive dog - jumpy and easily frightened by raised voices or sudden movements, even if they aren't meant for her. If she thinks she's in trouble, she shuts down, trembling despite all reassurance. Because of that fear, she doesn't always signal when she needs to go outside and might have the occasional accident if not checked in on - but a simple 'Do you need to go potty?' will have her heading to the door with hope in her eyes. She does currently reside with another dog who is also up for rescue as well. She has lived with both a dog and cat for almost a year Janie is loving, gentle, and trying her best. She's never lost her faith in people - but she deserves a home that will never let her down. Unfortunately, I can't give her that home anymore. My husband is facing severe kidney disease, and I've taken on two jobs to keep us going. We're losing our home, and I can't take Janie with me. This decision breaks me. But I know she deserves more than what I can give now.
