It's with a heavy heart that we need to find a new home for our beloved dog, Burton. We are hoping to find him a wonderful person or family (who is child free) who can give him the attention, activity and the life he deserves. About Burton Name: Burton Age: 5 years and 5 months old Breed: German Shepherd/Siberian Husky Sex: Male Spayed/Neutered: Yes Weight: 75lbs Color/Markings: Black, White and Caramel Vaccination Status: Up-to-date, records available Microchipped: Yes Overall Health: He has no health issues. Reason for Rehoming: We are seeking a new home for Burton because our current environment with a young toddler is not a safe or suitable match for him. He experiences significant anxiety around the unpredictability of young children, and he also exhibits resource guarding, particularly over his food. Sadly, this led to an incident where he bit our toddler when approached while eating. For everyone's safety and Burton's well-being, he requires an adult-only home where his food and space can be managed safely, ideally with experienced owners who understand resource guarding and can provide a calm, predictable environment. Personality & Temperament: Good Qualities: Extremely affectionate and loves to get brushed and cuddle, Very playful and loves long walks and beach runs. Great companion on a paddle board and at a camping trip! Loyal and bonds strongly with his people, Enthusiastic greeter. Energy Level: High - needs lots of exercise Things to Know/Challenges: Can be anxious when he hears vacuum or visits groomers and vets (we use anti-anxiety pills for groomer or vet visits), He is very protective over his food and does show teeth when someone approaches his food, Pulls strongly on leash, Jumps up when excited. Good with Other Dogs: Yes, He likes playing with other dogs especially the ones similar to his size, he hasn't shown any aggressive behavior with other dogs. Though sometimes he can be pushy with other dogs when he wants to play with them. Good with Cats: Yes, he currently has a cat brother and they play together frequently. He is gentle while playing. Good with Kids: Unfortunately no, uncomfortable and anxious around children. Training & Habits: House-Trained: Yes, completely house-trained, no accidents. Crate-Trained: Yes, Tolerates crate for short periods, he is happy getting into crate especially if the door of the crate is open. Leash Manners: High energy on leash, pulls strongly but follows commands like 'Stop', 'Slow Down', 'Keep Walking', 'Cross Street'. But during walks he doesn't mind any people or dogs passing by. Basic Commands Known: Sit, Shake, Stay, Back, Come, Down, Lay, Spin Any Vices: If bored, he can dig the yard. Ideal Home: An active family/individual who enjoys hiking/running; A home with a securely fenced yard; Experienced dog owners preferred; Someone home most of the day; Someone who has an active job and can take Burton with them; A home without young children. What's Included: Leash, collar, remaining food, favorite toys, bed, car seat cover, vet records, crate and impact proof kennel for his safe transportation on a truck bed.
