We are devastated that we have to consider rehoming Auggie, who we love very, very much. Auggie is a five year old toy poodle born during COVID. He has had severe separation anxiety since birth. We have tried everything. Multiple trainers, several behavioral vets, and medication. When left alone he immediately becomes extremely distressed and will howl until we return. We live in an apartment building and his howling can be unsettling for our neighbors. When leaving the house for almost any length of time we have no choice but to arrange for dog sitting. We are two professional parents (one of whom works from home but with a busy travel schedule; the other works in an office) and now that our children have left for college, we are struggling to manage finding (and affording) constant acceptable dog-sitting for Auggie. Though it breaks our hearts, we have no choice but to see if we can find an alternative home for him. Caring for him in the way he deserves is not sustainable for us. All that said, he is a loving, sweet, adorable, very good dog who would be a wonderful fit for a home where the owners' lifestyle is simply to be home with him all the time. He loves the outdoors, he is good with others dogs and loves his owners deeply.
