About Cinder

I volunteer 5-6 days/week. Cinder has been at the shelter since June 2024. Nobody wanted to work with him. So I took him on as a project. I'm so glad I did. I get him out of his kennel multiple times a day and I've sometimes gone in just for Cinder. He is now great on leash - as long as you are consistent. We haven't done a lot of heel work but we've done enough that he knows it and he'd would do well if that's important to you. He loves all toys - especially his Jolly Ball. I've just started to introduce him to tunnels and he is having a lot of fun. He will lay down at doors/gates and he will wait until I say 'free' - even when we're going into a play yard and he can see the toys. I sometimes set a timer in the yard. When he hears it go off, he immediately drops his toy and goes to the gate to leave. I've got him walking between my legs now (only when I tell him, lol) and he will do a crawl. We're going to try spin and maybe even a backwards walk soon. Cinder is so smart he can learn anything. He has become really affectionate and gives the best hugs! Shelter life sucks for any dog, but it's not a good place for a Mal. He's been there so long and he's finally doing well with all that work we've been putting in. I already think he's amazing, but he will only get better once he's away from the shelter with the right person. I really love Cinder and wish I could take him home myself but my current dog wouldn't allow it. I desperately want him to find his forever home. He does well in playgroup with dogs of similar size/energy/play style but he might not be a great fit with some dogs.
