About Ryka Hope

Rottweiler
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Ryka Hope is a beautiful and loving Purebred Rottie whom we rescued to foster just 12 hours prior to her scheduled euthanasia in Corpus 2 years ago. We quickly became foster fails. We fell in love with her despite our problems with her. We have worked diligently over the past 2 years to train and educate her. At the time, we had 3 other dogs (now we have 4 other dogs). Initially, she was very dog aggressive to all of them. but learned to get along with them with only minor skirmishes occasionally. We always thought she might need to be the only dog in the home, but hoped she would rehabilitate, which she seemed to do until recently. She has once again become intentionally and severely aggressive to one particular dog in our home - our oldest. After visiting vets and trainers and behaviorists, we have been told by all that Ryka Hope needs to be the only dog in the home. We are heartbroken to have to rehome her. She is so loving and obedient, and craves human touch and interaction and loves training sessions. Ryka is crate trained and LOVES 'night night'. staying peacefully all night in her kennel. She is VERY food driven, LOVES treats, and works hard and eagerly for them and learns quickly! She is wonderful on a leash, she loves going in the car, has good manners in public (loves going to Home Depot and behaves well on patio eateries), knows 'sit', 'down' (we use this for lay down), 'out', 'off' (we use this to mean don't jump or get off furniture), she can 'say hi' (gives paw), and can 'high 5' and 'beg'. She knows all these verbal commands with hand signals as well. She has never toileted in the house, but we can't claim that she is house trained as we have a dog door and she learned to use that very quickly. Though she has been in our home with a toddler, we learned that the kiddo's sudden movements and loud vocals triggered an alert response (hackles raised, ears raised, hard stares trying to find the cause of the child's 'distress' and protect the child from it), that we had to constantly diffuse. For that reason, I'd say she should not go to a home with small children. Ryka has finely tuned protective instincts and we often wonder if her first owner taught her this. It hurts to have to rehome her, but we feel she will thrive even more in a home where she is the only animal. She needs a loving, yet dominant owner, one with extensive Rottweiler experience. She will need strong leadership. We feel we can no longer risk the danger to our other dogs and cannot do her the disservice of keeping her in a home she does not have 100% peace in. She is a beauty with a loving soul and we can only wish she could tell us about her first 2 years of life. She is 4 years old, 88 pounds, stands about knee tall, spayed, microchipped, and has all vaccines. If you can provide Ryka Hope the strong leadership in a home she won't have to share -ever- with another animal for her entire life, please contact us. We can provide other photos and videos upon request.
