PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL. RESCUEME SITE ISNT WORKING. ONLY PLS. CALL. WE ARE NOT GETTING EMAILS OF FOLKS INTERESTED IN OUR DOGS. THE RESCUE of OAKLEY Oakley's story starts out like so many of my rescues. A person posted seeing him in a local group in a rural Arkansas community, walking in the woods. Locals started commenting, ' I have seen him roaming for about 2 weeks '. A person who knows I am the crazy Saint lady in Arkansas sent me the post. I contacted the poster and they said a well known 501c3 Rescue had reached out to help him. 2 weeks later, the poster contacted me and said the Rescue had ghosted them and asked if I was still interested. They have been trying to keep him contained, but he would wander away for a couple of days and come back. So, the crazy Saint lady drove for 2 hrs to get him...Oakley was so loving, he let me love on him and took the treats I gave him. He allowed me to put a collar on him, but as soon as I attached the leash, he became combative and started chewing on it. I felt he had a bad memory of being tied up outside. I put him in my car and started the trip back.. the sweet baby cried, moaned, and barked for the 2 hr drive to my vet.. The temperature was 85 degrees, so I had the air on for him, but I had to leave my window down due to the stench coming from his ear..I have never seen such a badly infected ear. The inside was almost swollen shut. It was raw with black masses and green discharge was flowing out..When we arrived at the vet, I walked him to potty. He was limping on his back legs and after a few steps, he collapsed.. My vet had to sedate him to examine his ear, because he started crying and didn't want it to be touched. His teeth were so nasty, he got his teeth cleaned and checked while he was sedated. He also got a couple of xrays on his back legs... Oakley has been at my vet's for 3 days now..the info from my vet so far is he is about 8 yrs old, he is being treated for heartworms, ear infection, eye infections, fleas and ticks, he is currently deaf ( hoping once his ear is healthy, he will be able to hear) and he received a much needed bath and nail trim. I don't have the results of the xrays yet..Oakley has the fur and coloring of a Saint, but the body structure similar to a Golden Retriever or Collie..he weighs 70 lbs. He will be neutered after he finishes his heartworm treatment if the vet advises it's safe for him.. I know nothing about him except he is loving and craves attention. I also know he will be pain free and be loved for the rest of his life. Oakley will be available for adoption when he is healthy, despite my husband wanting to keep every stray I bring home.. my husband doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'foster'!!
