The fee is the cost of spaying. $150 This beautiful girl was dumped on me. Her handler is a 12 year old girl. She got 4H obedience champion, both puppy and adult. She is a calm relaxed dog in the house and on leash. I have her outside in a covered kennel, and she was easily trained not to bark. This girl is more sensitive and intelligent than any dog I have ever worked with. Her owners house burn. Then she lost her business. Now, she is in the midst of a divorce with a child custody battle. The dog got out and injured a smaller dog. I am 78 years old with one good arm and one good leg, and can barely walk. The dog negotiates stairs with me and never pulls or tugs on the leash. I run her 2-3 miles a day with an Etrike. (I can't walk well, but I can peddle.) getting her in and out of the kennel is relatively easy. She is so obedient and compliant, always ready, but never excitable or out of control. I love this dog, shamefully, more than my own. The problem: She is an highly skilled escape artist. My 4 foot fence is nothing! I am told that she has gotten out of a 6 foot fence. She doesn't go far, but does not respond to recall. She returns shortly I live in a small town, and people tie small dogs out in their front yards. When I run her with my Etrike I see how she looks at those small dogs. She got out once on me. I chased after her with my Etrike. She wanted to eat a squirrel! Off leash, she is a completely different dog trying to leap up into the tree to get that squirrel. We are old, but a lot of people come and go in our house. She will get out again. I think I am in the early stages of dementia, and am becoming forgetful and have episodes of paralysis of thought and confusion. She got out, because I fed her, secured the kennel door then noticed poop to be picked up. After getting the poop out, I neglected to put a snap in the latch. She opens doors and pops latches up. I put a second latch up higher, harder to reach, but in a similar circumstance I almost forgot to put snaps in the latches again. That! And adults and kids of varying ages coming and going in the house.... She will get out again, and she could kill some old ladies squeak toy dog. A second issue is that she prevents my dog from approaching me. Not viciously. They have some sort of dog language that he reds and is afraid to approach me when she moves in front of him. He is a Cattle dog. I could deal with this. Just thought people should know. I think she was raised with cats. I don't see an alarming interest in cats. My nephew brought a goofy Brittany Spaniel on Easter, and the Shepherd wanted to eat that dog. LOL! We all felt like eating the dog. My nephew is 5 years old and still kinda ADHD, and his pup acts just like he did when he was a kid. The Shepherd would have killed that dog. I thought about it. Bottom line: I love this dog. I would love to keep it, but I am just too old. And I do not know enough to try to retrain the dog. If I cannot find a right home for this girl, i will have to put her down, and that is heart braking. I can get her shot records and title. Spaying costs $150 at a clinic 40 miles from me. I prefer she be spayed. If someone wants her intact, fee will be substantially higher. his is too good of a dog to be stuck in a kennel and producing puppies that flood the shelters.
