About Davy Jones

Davy Jones is a 4 year old purebred Lagotto Romagnolo (NOT a portuguese water dog, but it's the closest similar working breed with curly hair I could find on the list). His owner died suddenly about a year and a half ago, and the foster family he's with now cannot keep him forever. He LOVES hiking - being outside, climbing the continental divide, etc. He needs at least an hour or two a day hiking, and would prefer much more - think border collie level of energy, even though people think he's a doodle, the temperament is much higher energy. He'd be ideal for someone who is very active hiking all the time, but does't want a really large dog (he's 46 lbs). He's used to mostly off leash hiking (recall is decent.. not really up to voice control standards currently though), but can also do leash walks. In the house, he's affectionate, demanding petting, and snuggling in bed. Good with other dogs on the trail and at home, pretty much ignores people on the trail, not aggressive. Used to bigger dogs for the most part, hasn't really met many cats. Farm animals were limited to geese and chickens who he mostly ignored. Very smart, but hasn't really had much formal training or nose work training that his breed often gets. He does have a metal plate in one front leg from a car accident 2 years ago, but it doesn't seem to slow him down much now - still hikes with all four legs and wears all the bigger dogs out. His coat does require a bit of grooming, either weekly at home, or monthly professional. Email me and I can give you his full story.
