The classic, striking physical beauty and elegance of the Rough Collie capture the attention of most people. The breed's true, exceptional beauty, however, lies within its phenomenal temperament. Gentle, affectionate, mild-mannered, patient, intelligent, loyal, and intuitive with a particular affinity for children; you'll find no other companion and family dog as tender-hearted and trustworthy as a Collie. Our beautiful, docile, and incredibly sweet Anna is no exception, displaying the phenomenal temperament her breed is famous for. Anna is a purebred spayed female Rough Collie. She is 8.5 years old (DOB: August 2016) and is on the smaller side for her breed, weighing approximately 55 pounds. She came to us when her previous guardians moved and sadly, could not bring her along. Anna inherited her breed's famed temperament, but unfortunately, she also inherited a genetic condition common in Collies that led to the loss of her eyesight a few years ago. Collies are predisposed to several genetic eye conditions that can lead to vision impairment and, in some cases, complete blindness. Anna suffers from Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). The condition is not painful and requires no extra care or medication, but there is no treatment, and affected dogs gradually lose their sight over several months to years. According to her previous guardians, Anna has been completely blind since she was around 3 years old. Once she is familiar with an environment/home, she gets around well and has no trouble finding her way around her foster home or navigating stairs once she knows their location. She is a more cautious dog by nature, however, and needs a little extra encouragement and support in unfamiliar places. She's an incredibly attentive dog and will stick close to her people, listening for voice commands and cues when introduced to new environments. Aside from a bit of guidance and patience when introduced to new environments, Anna requires no extra or specialized care than any other sighted dog. Despite her disability, she still greatly enjoys going for walks and exploring the outdoor world around her. She also loves chewing on her Nylabones, other dogs, going for car rides, sunbathing, and mealtime, but most of all, she loves just being close to her favorite humans. Anna can be a little shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly and forms close bonds with her humans, and is incredibly affectionate and loving. She is very quiet and well-behaved in the home, is housebroken, crate-trained, trustworthy, and not destructive or anxious when left alone at home. Anna is one of the sweetest, most gentle, and kindest dogs we've ever had come through our doors. If you feel she could be the dog for you, please reach out today! She's anxiously waiting to meet you and will make one lucky household incredibly happy. Anna recently had a dental cleaning, is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with vaccines, and started on flea and heartworm prevention.
