Meet Pepper - A Sweet, Loyal Companion for the Right Home Name: Pepper Breed: Boston Terrier Sex: Female Age: 9 or 10 years old Weight: 18 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up-to-date Heartworm Prevention: None Health Issues: None About Pepper: Pepper is a loyal and spirited little girl who has been with me since 2019 when I adopted her from an owner rehoming her via Craigslist. She's been by my side through graduate school and many life changes, but I've recently reached a point where I can no longer provide the attention and care she deserves, due to changes in my job (I will have to commute an hour both ways) and starting a family (she is not good with babies). She's a playful girl who adores her balls and toys, enjoys snuggling under warm blankets, and often seeks out cozy nooks like her crate for comfort- especially during storms. While not a cuddler in the traditional sense, Pepper enjoys affection and will happily sit next to you and ask for pets. She's alert, intelligent, and very in tune with her surroundings, often acting as a little watchdog in the home. Ideal Home: Pepper is best suited for an adult-only home with an experienced dog owner who can continue to manage her behavioral needs. She is not compatible with other pets and does not do well with young children, though she has been okay with older kids (10+). She has strong fear-based aggression toward other animals and occasionally growls at strangers, so patience and a quiet environment are key. Training & Behavior: Within the first month of adopting Pepper in 2019, I realized that she was aggressive towards other animals. I invested in a month-long overnight professional training for Pepper to work on her dog aggression, but her reactivity has persisted. She is crate-trained and knows the command of 'sit'. She is generally well-behaved when alone but does struggle with long periods of isolation, which can sometimes lead to accidents indoors, especially as she's gotten older. She uses pee pads about half the time when needed. Additional Notes: -She feels safest in her crate and does very well with structure. -Loud noises and bad weather make her anxious, and she'll need a safe space and soothing background noise to feel secure. -Pepper is affectionate with the people she trusts and will happily give kisses if you let her. -She is fully up-to-date on all vaccines required by vets (I board her regularly due to my out-of-town work travels). Why I'm Surrendering: This has been an incredibly difficult decision. Due to changes in my life, I am no longer able to give Pepper the time, attention, and environment she needs to thrive. I love her dearly and want to ensure she finds a home that understands her personality and is able to give her the love and structure she deserves.
