Thank you in advance for helping us find Blu a better home. He's a wonderful dog, but with altered work and home schedules among other personal things not related to him, we aren't able to provide him with the time and attention he needs and deserves. Blu is 1yr 9mo old whom we've had since he was 8 weeks old. We purchased him from a Breeder in Lancaster, PA. We do not have AKC papers for him or his parents. We were told by the breeder that he had them for the mother, but the father unfortunately passed before they were able to complete the process...and honestly was never a big deal to us anyway. He's 80 lbs and very friendly. We have 12 and 9 year old daughters who he has always been good with. Through some of the puppy stages he failed to realize his own size, but other than a nail scratch here and there, has always been gentle. He loves to play fetch, catch frisbees or deflated soccer balls. He has never been aggressive with other dogs, but he persistently follows them around trying to sniff them :) We had a friend bring over a 4 month old Pitbull, and Blu became disinterested very quickly with the playfulness, and was submissive when the younger dog took his bone, so I'm not sure he would be great around other high energy dogs. He loves to follow me around and thinks he's a lap dog. If you make eye contact, be ready to play tug or go outside for more fun. When he was 10 months old, he was laying at my feet while we watched a movie as a family. At some point I think I moved my foot and he bit me and jumped up with his ears and tail down. It came completely out of nowhere, and I wasn't sure what happened, but thought he was asleep. About two months later, a similar scenario occurred in the same space, completely quiet with me and he was 100% asleep and did the same to my foot. This time he put a hole in me which has healed. I've read this is not uncommon even for the nicest of dogs, but I want to make this known, especially for anyone with smaller kids. I can't emphasize how much this has not concerned me with his overall temperament. My children and other guests as young as 3 have interacted with him numerous times while he remains either calm, or excited to play. Being a farm dog, he wasn't comfortable on hard floors and by the first week we had him, understood to use the bathroom outside, which was where he was most comfortable to begin with. I still brag on how quickly he was housebroken. I've had many small dogs that took way longer. He has never been crated. When left at home too long, he has chewed up some of my shoes (I'm his person). never my wife's or daughters, thankfully! He's chewed up small things he's found sitting around, the most expensive being an apple pen :( but never any furniture/walls/flooring etc. It's hard to say a specific date, but he hasn't chewed a non-toy/bone since late 2024. We haven't changed anything, so hopefully he's simply grown out of that behavior. Blu's diet since about 7 months old has consisted of 80% cooked chicken, with the remaining being various mixtures of brown rice, sweet potatoes, and more recently kibble which seems to help his stool from being too soft. If you give him a bowl of just kibble, I'm guessing he may eat it eventually, but he'll look at you like you don't love him'|I tried recently out of curiosity. He's also had beef, turkey and fish with no issues. Most dog sitting has occurred at our home with no issues. He stayed with in-laws for 3 days recently with no issues as well, but it's worth noting that he was panting heavily for most of the time. I'm sure anxious in a new space and away from his normal pack. He ate normally and played, but never got to the relaxed state we're used to. Grooming and bathing, I give him a C+ maybe B- :) I do both and can do so on my own, but he can get fidgety at times'|.but loves getting on his grooming table every time I bring it out. Go figure. We have copies of all his medical records/vaccines. He's up to date with the exception of Bordetella. He does have cryptorchidism (one testicle) which per my vet will need to be addressed at some point before 6y/o. We never planned to breed him, and I only assumed he would need to be fixed to avoid being an aggressive large dog, which he isn't. We live in a good sized town house, but our backyard connects to a 2 acre common area that Blu enjoys daily. We're of course looking for homes with ample space and a family with more time for him.
