About Moonshine

Adoption Fee: $400
Boxer / Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

n early April (2024), Moonshine was wandering the streets, vulnerable to human cruelty, where she found herself hit by a car that did not stop to help her. LUCKILY, a witness came to her immediate aide, loading Moonshine up into her vehicle and rushing to the emergency vet. There, it was determined that Moo was in luck yet again (relatively), with injuries summing up to only a lurch in her shoulder and some cuts/abrasions from the collision (no broken bones thank goodness). But Moo's luck could only last so long'| and after exhibiting some reactivity at the emergency vet, she was quickly transferred to the Arizona Humane Society for evaluation. AZ Humane then reach out to our organization with a plea and a deadline for a reactive, underweight boxer mix in need of behavior support outside the scope of what their shelter could provide. Her name was Brie at the time'| and she was so dirty, she looked like a white dog that had rolled in ash. It wasn't until we brought her home and bathed her, that the freckles and spots on her crisp white coat shined'| MOONSHINED! Since being in foster care through our organization, Moonshine has learned many new skills, including kennel training, potty training, and even walking on the treadmill! Additionally, this girl has been figuring out how to loose leash walk and remain neutral in situations that would typically make her reactive. While she is still a work in progress, she has shown clear improvement on our adventures around the neighborhood, as well as outings to PetSmart and Home Depot. She does still bark at new people entering her home, but she warms up so quickly and proceeding interactions are often met with much happy enthusiasm! Although she loves our adventures on land the most, Moo also enjoys a dip in the pool, too, as she just learned how to swim this past summer! BUT Moo's favorite thing BY FAR is stuffed plush squeaky toys'| and you already know Lamb Chop is her number one pick! One issue we have not been able to work through with Moonshine is her friendliness towards dogs/cats, and for that reason it is probably best to place her as the only pet in the home. Of course, Moo has ALL the love you could ever need anyway! Furthermore, we do have her muzzle trained with a basket muzzle and, since accomplishing her muzzle training, she behaves neutrally around my five other dogs (while muzzled). What's wonderful is that Moo has a very positive association with her basket muzzle, so she loves when we put it on and doesn't mind wearing it for hours at a time. Overall, Moonshine will be a great addition to the right home, with people who will keep up on the training we've already been doing with her. She's the perfect balance of energetic enthusiasm and couch potato, a dog that's equally ready for a morning hike or a nap on a lazy afternoon! Whether you're a person trying to find a bit of light in the darkness or just someone who wants to enjoy a dog and drink'| you need some MOONSHINE! Social: Not Good With Dogs. Not Good With Cats.
