Good with Cats: Unknown. Concerns: People guarding tendencies. No resource guarding of food or toys. BIOGRAPHY: Meet Pepper! One of the most loving, playful, engaging foster dogs we've ever had. He looks like a Brussels Griffon (with an adorable touch of Gargoyle) but DNA suggests he's a Boston Terrier/Poodle. He is 3 years old, 16 pounds, healthy, happy and looking for a fur-ever home. Pepper came into rescue just in the nick of time, as he was on the euthanasia schedule at the shelter where he was pulled from. Pepper's original owner had surrendered him, but the reasons given were vague, incomplete, and arguably incorrect. We were told he didn't like men, but that's clearly not true. It's very hard to understand why someone gave up this little cutie. In the three weeks he has been in his current foster home (and for several weeks with his prior foster) Pepper has been such a good boy. He truly adores people and gets along very well with other dogs (especially small/medium ones). He is crate trained, leash trained, house broken, knows several commands and plays fetch and tug of war with the best of them. He loves toys, cuddling, head scratches, belly rubs and is known to make cute faces and give gentle kisses in gratitude. In his current foster home, he has not shown any aggression or resource guarding behaviors with food or toys - but he can be very protective of his people, particularly at night when the lights are off. In the first few nights with his current fosters, he would fall asleep at the feet of foster mom or dad, and if the other walked by, they would get a growl and a quick inspection. But when he sleeps in his kennel, they don't hear a peep out of him. This behavior was very easily mitigated by giving him a little bit of structure and establishing boundaries. Because of his 'people guarding' tendencies, Pepper will likely do best in a home with experienced dog owners and no small children. An ideal applicant will be someone committed to loving him dearly and working with him to be an even better boy than he is now. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Pepper is located in Owings Mills, MD and available for an adoption fee of $400.00.
