PLEASE READ ENTIRE AD BEFOE CONTACTING ME! It's with very sad heart that I need to write this ad. I rescued Maverick from Long Beach Animal Care Services on January 25, 2025. He's about 2 years old. He had kennel cough and pneumonia. The pneumonia wasn't diagnosed until about 2 weeks after adoption because he had barely eaten any food. I took him to the vet here, they did x rays, and diagnosed his pneumonia. I took him to a vet in Rosarito, Mexico as the vet here was going to charge upwards of $10K to keep him overnight for two nights. The vet determined that Maverick was not eating because he couldn't breathe, so they provided him with oxygen therapy and gave him pills for the kennel cough. I have an oxygen machine where I give him oxygen once every 10 days or so, just to help him out. This would need to continue for about 4-6 months more. He was like a brand new dog after two days with the vet, however, they told me that his lungs were permanently damaged. Maverick is not allowed to exercise very much, as there is a risk he can have a heart attack. The vet also said he can't be around other dogs because he could get sick easily due to his compromised immune system. This holds true for his entire life. He doesn't get along great with other dogs, so he will need to be an only animal. I'm not sure how he is around cats. However, he is amazing with all humans. He also walks with a little bit of a limp and has since I adopted him. Despite the limp, he still loves to play fetch, run, jump, etc. The limp doesn't both him at all. Maverick is now doing just fine as an 'inside dog', loves to play with his tennis balls, and his rope tire toy. He eats twice a day without any issues. He loves to cuddle in bed, knows basic commands and is house trained. He has a ton of life in him, so I don't have the heart to put him down. I adopted a dog as a live an active lifestyle, and was looking for a companion for such. He pants a lot due to the lasting effects of the pneumonia, even after pretty short walks. I'm looking to rehome him(very small fee), preferably to an older couple who possibly have a yard for him as I live in an apartment. I would be open to rehoming him somewhere where he won't get a lot of exercise, and can live a sedentary lifestyle. He's a very happy dog no matter what. I WILL NOT rehome Maverick to just anyone and am in no rush to rehome him. I will make sure that he goes to a great home who can give him the life he deserves. Feel free to contact with any questions, advice, contacts, etc.
